Main Piece:
Using provisional cast on, cast on 185 sts.
Foundation row: P182, slip 3 purlwise.
Row 1: K3 (pulling yarn fairly tight for first st), work row 1 of pattern stitch to last 3 sts, slip 3
Row 2: P3, (pulling yarn fairly tight for first st), p to last 3 sts, slip 3
Continue in pattern stitch with 3 sts I-cord edging until 36 repeats of pattern stitch have been completed.
Slip 3 sts on to a safety pin, slip 179 sts on to a holder, slip last 3 sts on to a safety pin.
Border:
Using provisional cast on, cast on 20 sts.
Foundation row: purl, working last stitch together with 1 stitch from main piece stitches on the holder
(wrong side of main piece facing)
Next row: work row 1 of border pattern stitch
Next row: work row 2 of border pattern stitch, working last stitch together with 1 stitch from main piece.
Continue in this manner until all stitches from main piece have been worked. Leave sts on a holder.
Return to cast on stitches of main piece, unravel provisional cast on and place 3 sts at each end on to
safety pins and centre 179 sts on to a holder.
Work 2nd border in the same way as first.
Complete I-cord edging by picking up 3 sts from safety pin and working along edges of border, working
last st of I-cord together with 1 st from end of border.
To complete:
Sew in ends. Dress shawl by washing and pinning out to size. Leave until completely dry before
removing pins. |
